My colleague, Devarati Bhattacharya, will be presenting some of our work at the AGU Fall Meeting. She will be pressing on our efforts to build climate literacy among K-12 are supported by the Next Generation Science Standards and the Essential Principles for Climate Literacy. However, understanding Earth’s climate remains a challenge for K-12 students who underestimate the impact of changing climate on various ecosystems and perceive uncertainty as a complete lack of information. The challenges originate from the complexity and abstractness inherent to the basic science concepts that one needs to understand to comprehend GCC. In this presentation, we describe the implementation of a model-based inquiry by secondary geo-science teachers through a NSF project. Her talk is titled "Teaching Global Climate Change through the Integration of a Global Climate Model in Secondary Geo-Science Classrooms."
